Located in the heart of the Green Mountains, Killington Mountain Resort is a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding during the winter months.

However, the area is just as popular during the summer months, offering visitors a variety of fun and exciting things to do.

There are some affiliate links below, but they are all products I highly recommend. For more info, view my disclosure.

From a scenic gondola ride through the mountains to challenging golf courses, the Killington VT area has so many fun summer activities that are perfect for couples or the whole family.

I don't snowboard as much as I did in my 20s, so I prefer to visit during the summer because there is such a variety of things to do. In addition to sharing the top things to do in Killington in the summer, I'll also let you know the best places to eat (and drink). Because one of the best things about traveling is trying out different restaurants.

Outdoor Activities and Things to Do in Killington in the summer

Killington is an excellent destination for outdoor enthusiasts during the summer months. Whether you're into adventure sports or a total foodie, there's something here for everyone. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Killington in the summer.

Hiking

The mountains surrounding Killington are home to some of the best hiking trails in the region. The famous Appalachian Trail runs through the area, and Sherburne Pass is a popular spot to start a hike.

There are trails available for hikers of all levels, from easy one-mile walks to challenging multi-day treks. Some popular hikes include Thundering Falls Trail, Deer Leap Trail, and the Killington Peak Trail.

Mountain Biking

Killington Bike Park is a must-visit destination for mountain bikers. With over 30 miles of trails, the park offers something for everyone, from beginner to expert. The park offers rentals and lessons for those who are new to the sport. The downhill trails are great for experienced riders who want a thrill, while the cross-country trails are great for beginners who want to take it slow.

Water Activities

Killington is home to several lakes and rivers that offer a variety of water activities, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. Kent Pond is a popular spot for fishing and kayaking, while Chittenden Reservoir is a great place to swim and relax on the beach. The Killington Adventure Center also offers guided kayak tours and paddleboard rentals.

Rock Climbing

Why not give rock climbing a shot when you're up in the mountains? You can sign up with private guides to take you on an adventure through the hills. Take advantage of the mountains in New England with this unique and challenging activity.

Adventure Sports at Killington

This popular ski resort has plenty of activities to keep you entertained during the summer months. An Adventure Center Season Pass includes unlimited use of the Beast Mountain Coaster, K-1 Gondola, Zip Line Racer, Skye Ropes Course, Woodward WreckTangle, Soaring Eagle, Trampoline Jump, Downpour Derby, and Amaze'n Maze.

The Beast Mountain Coaster

The Beast is the main attraction at Killington Resort. The Beast Mountain coaster is a thrilling ride that takes you through the woods and down the mountain. It is a 4,800-foot-long roller coaster down the hills and through the forest. You control the speed of your car, so you can go as fast or slow as you like. It's a great way to experience the mountain in a whole new way.

Snowshed

Snowshed is another popular spot at the Killington Resort. With views of the Adventure Center, it's a great spot to grab a drink outside and listen to live music.

Local Park and Attractions

Vermont is known as the Green Mountain State, so you have to explore their parks during the summer to fully appreciate it's beauty.

Green Mountain National Forest

The Green Mountain National Forest is a great place to explore. The forest covers over 400,000 acres and has plenty of hiking trails. You can also go camping in the forest. There are several campgrounds available, and some of them have RV hookups.

Coolidge State Park

Coolidge State Park is a great place to visit if you want to see some wildlife. The park has over 20 miles of hiking trails, and you can see all kinds of animals, including moose, deer, and bears. Golfing in Killington

One of my favorite things to do in Killington in the summer is to play golf. With its stunning natural scenery and challenging courses, you'll find plenty of opportunities to hone your skills at these Killington golf courses. New England has some of the most scenic golf courses, so you absolutely should check them out when visiting Killington.

Killington Golf Course

The Killington Golf Course is a must-visit for any golfer visiting the area. Designed by Geoffrey Cornish, the course has stunning views of unique mountain terrain, offering golfers a challenging and rewarding experience. The course features snowmelt streams, a 2,000 elevation, and signature vistas that set the scene for a memorable round of golf.

The course is open from May to October and offers a range of amenities, including a pro shop, practice facilities, and a restaurant.

Green Mountain National Golf Course

Another great option for golfers in Killington is the Green Mountain National Golf Course. This 18-hole golf course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in Vermont, and for good reason. The course features stunning views of the surrounding mountains and challenging greens.

The Green Mountain National Golf Course is known for its blind shots, which add an extra layer of challenge to the game. However, the course is also designed to be playable for golfers of all skill levels, making it a great choice for a fun round of golf.

In addition to its challenging course, the Green Mountain National Golf Course also offers a pro shop, practice facilities, and a restaurant. So whether you're looking for a serious game of golf or just a fun afternoon on the course, the Green Mountain National Golf Course is a great choice.

Eat and Drink

While in Vermont, you need to check out the Killington craft breweries. We enjoyed some pretzel bites while we sampled beers at Long Trail Brewing Company – it has a great outdoor picnic area that overlooks a stream and a beautiful view of the mountain. It was a laid back fun place that we will visit again.

There are also many great restaurants in the Killington region like The Lookout Tavern and Casey's Caboose. For a breakfast sandwich and coffee to start the day, I'd recommend Liquid Art Coffeehouse. The coffee shop has an outdoor seating area and a take-out window so it's perfect to grab something before you head out golfing or mountain biking.

And finally, you can't visit Vermont without trying a Maple Creemee. It's a soft-serve ice cream made with maple syrup that is to die for. Seriously. Be sure to check out a local general store or farmers markets for the most authentic and delicious Vermont treat.

Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or just looking for a relaxing getaway, Killington in the summer has something for everyone. From hiking and mountain biking to scenic gondola rides and outdoor concerts, there's no shortage of activities to fill your days. And don't forget to treat yourself to some delicious local food and drinks while visiting.

And please – let me know if you enjoy the Maple Creemee!
